Katie was born in Los Angeles and spent her childhood performing anywhere she could- plays, dance recitals, tv commercials, or modeling work. Drawn to adventure but stuck in the classic Millenial dilemma of being forced into college, Katie chose to go to the Big Apple for school. There, she got her degree at The New School by creating her own curriculum around women's history and cultural studies through a lens of literature. Really, it was the gift of 4 years getting to research, write, read, and explore history.
It was while living in the big city that she was struck by a deep calling to connect with nature. This inclination led her on a synchronistic journey to her first herbal teacher which she studied under in various ways for a few years. When Katie got pregnant in 2011 she made the decision to live as naturally and close to earth as possible and to raise her son this way. And so it was.
Katie has been a single mom, foster mom, stepmom, and homeschooling mom. Mothering is integral to her life's work here on earth in helping steward and create communities dedicated to the preservation and dedication to the natural world. It is as much for us as it is for our children and grandchildren, and for earth herself.
Katie has studied under Susun Weed, Aviva Romm, The School of Evolutionary Herbalism, Chestnut Herb School, and more. She has apprenticed in her Mother's acupuncture office and been a forest school teacher. She has been a folk herbalist, forager, gardener, medicine maker, Kundalini Yoga teacher for over a decade and has led over one hundred people on their own herbal and healing journeys. Many of her past students now sell herbal products and teach classes themselves as successful herbalists.
Katie has 2 particular gifts: one is the creation of empowering and inspiring female healing communities; the second is to see the connections between seemingly unrelated topics: plant medicine, modern science, ancient mysticism, our bodies, cycles of the planets. These two gifts together weave the background for The Herbalist's Club- a unique community of Medicine Women able to come together to learn, share, build, and expand all while honing their herbal skills and knowledge.
